You reminded me of rural villages in India that import used clothing from Europe and America. These villagers take mountains of our used clothes, and separate them by color, take off the buttons, zippers, beads, etc. and cut off any thick, heavy seams. The clothes go into a gigantic vat of boiling water where a chipper rips the fabric into mulch. Once the mulch is drained, it is woven into thread, then woven into bolts of fabric. These huge spools of thread and bolts of fabric are how these villages earn their living.
These villagers pity Europeans and Americans – they honestly pity us. Why? They believe there is not enough water in Europe or America for people to wash our clothes, so we have to throw them away.
By the by, when I said mountains of clothes, I meant mountains.
