You got me remembering how much I enjoyed dating. In addition to your list, I can’t help but add some of my memorable activity dates …
Author’s readings at the library, or bookstore. Trail rides (horseback). Picnics. Hikes. The conservatory. Museums and exhibitions. Festivals and parades. Sailing. Boating. A visit to historic preservation sites. A long drive. Seasonal picking (apples, cherries, and raspberries). Traditional craft classes – to make candles, brooms, and weavings. Farm and garden shows. County fairs. Craft fairs. Garage sales. Basketball and hockey games. Tennis dates (it’s the only sport I played). The racetrack (horses). Brewery and vineyard tours. The zoo. Rodeos. Thrift store shopping. Local poetry slams, and open mic events. Concerts and dance performances. Plays. Cooking classes. Repertoire and community theatres. The circus. Political rallies. Pool halls. Auctions, flea markets, and farmers markets. Bingo. Dance clubs. Jazz clubs. Dinner theatre. Comedy shows.
Back in the 70s and into the early 80s, activity dates were far more common than dinner, drink, coffee or lunch dates. Has that changed? If people don’t do these kinds of things anymore, what do they do on a date?
PS When I had kids, I took them on activity dates every chance I could. They’re in their mid-thirties now and we are still going on activity dates together. These days, they plan our dates and they are really good at it too.
PPS Andre, thanks for the great date trip down memory lane.
