Yes, that is exactly what I am claiming. My word, Rex, even your list of rural “beliefs” is as stereotypical as you could get.

I’ve lived in rural America the majority of my life, including all of the last 45 years. For more than 30 of those years I’ve worked on rural issues at the local, state, and regional level. In fact, I am one of the tiny number of professionals with expertise in rural land-use, urban-planning and economic development. I have personally designed and conducted countless cultural planning projects in rural communities. By most every indicator, rural Kentucky is far more progressive than rural California (or rural Texas).

The difference between Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy makes my case. Tell me, do you have any idea, whatsoever, what those differences are?

Now tell me, what is a rural American in your mind? Then tell me, how would you know what is, or is not, rural culture? Please don’t tell me you grew up on a farm 50 or 60 years ago. Simply put, the point of view of a farmer’s children, is as childish as the rural stereotype you’ve bought into.

As the old saying goes, “what gets measured, gets done.” Pluralus is operating on what someone else measured. I operate deep inside rural communities, not from effing Harvard, or the damn Heritage Foundation.

That “some, many, or typical” game is insulting, and you owe me an apology. I’m dinging Pluralus for talking about people he knows absolutely nothing about.

Rural America is my home. I serve diner, gourmet, seven course, and homecooked thoughts — but spare me chain food served on thoughtless trains of thought.
