What the hell was the rush? This little girl needed calm and patient reassurance. If it had taken all day to calm her down, so be it. Inasmuch as 9 officers were sent to the scene, they had all the time in the world to give her. At the very least, they should have called for someone to come and assist the child.

I know it sounds utterly and completely stupid, but...

I honestly believe we need to focus some attention on the RUSH. Police are shooting when they could be, and should be pulling back, keeping watch, maintaining a safe distance, making sure bystanders are safe, assessing the situation, thinking things through and calling for someone to come and assist the people who have guns pointed at their heads.
