Valentine's Day was a Saturday, so that's the day we got married. Two kids and four years later, we got divorced. On Valentine's we'd take the kids out to dinner at our favorite restaurant (Japanese). The four of us would toast ourselves, and my ex-husband would say happy valentines, and I would say happy anniversary.
Fast forward 14 years and we are doing our Valentine's thing, same restaurant, same 4 people and same toast. Except, this time, my ex-husband asks why I always say happy anniversary instead of happy valentines? Time stops. The kids look at their dad, they look at each other and land on me.
Turns out, my ex-husband forgot that February 14th was the day we got married. It also turns out, he remembers the date our divorce was final and I do not.
