The same principles apply to governing systems, social systems, economic systems, healthcare systems, etc. and so on.
There is such a thing as TOO BIG. Once a system gets TOO BIG, humans cannot manage it on their own. When humans have to rely on computing power to manage anything they create, they no longer control their own creations.
For example, the American military is TOO BIG. Its like sending a whale after a guppy. Little guppy is quick and nimble and can take refuge in teeny tiny spaces that whale is TOO BIG to enter. The only way for whale to get guppy, is to destroy the entire area where he is hiding. Which is exactly what happened in Vietnam, then Iraq and then Afghanistan. When all was said and done, guppies beat the whale.
The only reason that Trump and Musk are able to dismantle our governing system, is because it is TOO BIG. And that is also the reason, so many Americans are cheering them on.
Simply put, people were voting against a government that was TOO BIG for them to navigate, understand, or control. No matter how hard people tried to cooperate, live by the rules, use reason, logic and common sense, the TOO BIG system defeated them every time. IOW, Democracy was NOT working for anyone anymore.
Of course, TOO BIG corporations with their TOO BIG legal firms, TOO BIG accounting firms., TOO BIG lobbying firms and TOO BIG bank accounts, were doing fine, but citizens were not.
Many years ago, the state sued our company for unreported resale taxes. As the judge pointed out when issuing his decision, we were facing two contradictory laws. No matter which law we followed, we were breaking the other law. Luckily, the judge ruled in our favour.
As for programming, nothing upsets me faster, than a hundred functions that I do not need or want standing in my way.
PS thank you for your articles, as you might have guessed, they are helping me work out my thinking about the awful mess we are all in.
