Thank you for taking me seriously. I have the annoying habit of dismissing my first impressions. In this case, I read those bullet points, several times, trying to find a reason to object. Only by assuming bad intentions could I object — and that is what I did, I re-worded them to reflect the bad intentions I had assumed upon them.

I think this is a clear case of confirmation bias — eh? Your words did not match my idea of you, so I remedied my confusion, by making assumptions on the intentions of the authors of those bullet points. I know I can’t read minds, but I did it anyways. No wonder I was confused.

Your reply brought me back to earth and I discover that the language in those bullet points does, in fact, protect all students. Whether or not that was accidental or intentional cannot be known. From now on those words will do the speaking — not the intentions — and that’s what matters.

I’ve made the mistake or arguing intentions, instead of facts, many times. If I don’t catch my mistake fast enough, I find myself embroiled in arguments than go round and round in circles — with no way out for anyone involved.

Thank you for pulling me out of the weeds. I was getting a bad case of hay fever in there.

Rural America is my home. I serve diner, gourmet, seven course, and homecooked thoughts — but spare me chain food served on thoughtless trains of thought.
