Since you are a mailman with the storytelling gift, I want to tell you a true story.

One year I was staying in a ryokan in Japan. I woke at dawn and wandered out to the garden and found an old man sitting there. The night before we’d bathed in the traditional, communal style, but we had not met, so we introduced ourselves.

The old man was almost 80, a retired mailman from Australia and a gifted storyteller. I remember him laughing when I told him where I came from, we called it swapping lies. We had so many lies to swap we ended up spending a few days hiking together. I kind of fell in love with the old man and all these years later, he remains one of my fondest memories.
