Our founding fathers imported the traditions of Europe, the place that failed them, they condemned America with the same failures. They knew those failures intimately, but they lacked the courage of their convictions and left us with an aristocracy dressed up as Democracy.

There is nothing new, young, or fresh in neo-liberal, neo-conservative, neo-Nazi, or neo-anything else. It’s just the same old failures reconstructed over and over again.

In my mind, it’s time to cut ties to Europe, declare true independence, and head out on our own. To that end, how about the aspirational, future-oriented term, futurus (Latin, "going to be, yet to be").

Philosophically speaking, I think we need a clean break from the past. Futurus might help keep us focused on “creating” the future, instead of repeating past.

Rural America is my home. I serve diner, gourmet, seven course, and homecooked thoughts — but spare me chain food served on thoughtless trains of thought.
