On Thanksgiving day, unions were a hot topic. The young were listening intently as the old folks talked about what unions did for their families. Apparently, the UAW strike hit home around here and people are really worked up, excited and feeling hopeful again. Along with our regular feast, everyone was full of union pride. Its been so long, since I last heard people talk like that I'd forgotten how good it felt.
There were only 40 people at our gathering, but this is Kentucky, and if 40 people at one dinner are talking unions, you can bet people in every county around us were talking union too.
Class consciousness indeed.
