Lakitha, I haven't studied it, but isn't that what the Basic Income idea is about? If so, I am all for it.

Thanks to data we now know what it costs to live a safe, basic, healthy life in America - by basic I mean basic housing, clothing, food, water, and medical care necessary to hold a job, heat the house in winter, cook, take a shower and feed your children.

We also know that corporations do not pay enough for millions of working Americans to provide that life for themselves. Hence people are working two, or three jobs, while their kids are raising themselves.

A Basic Income would make up the difference between what corporations are allowed to pay people and what it actually costs to live in America. It would be a subsidy that went directly to the poor. and that would be a whole lot cheaper, cause it would cut out a whole lot of administrative personnel, and all the office spaces computers. and stuff they need to do it the way government is doing it now - which is...

Right now government spends billions on corporate welfare programs like Medicaid, Food Stamps, cash aid, and subsidized housing. The poor are just a cover-up for corporate welfare.

To wit... The government pays corporations to build, and manage cheap tenement housing for the poor. Taxpayers pay for it, corporations get the profit, and tenants are stuck in substandard housing.

To wit... there are more non-medical personnel in healthcare than doctors, surgeons, nurses etc. All these non-medical workers, need office space, computers, phones, desks, etc. (very expensive stuff). As a result corporations engaged in health insurance, healthcare management, marketing, data collection, advertising, sales, etc. consume so much money, very few Medicaid dollars are left to spend on healthcare for the poor.

To wit... As we just saw in this election, voters punish politicians when the cost of groceries goes up. Mother Nature is so unpredictable, farming is a very unstable business and one bad year can put a farmer out of business. Without farmers, no one would have any food to eat. Government has maintained our food supply by programs that get a farmer through a bad year, so he can plant the next year. Food stamps is one of those programs - that's why SNAP is under the department of agriculture (USDA). Food stamps helps guarantee customers for farmers who grow commodity crops - like wheat, corn, and soy. Food stamps replaced commodity food supplies like my grandparents used to get - but that's another story :)

PS true stories are the best and that was one of my favorites, so I'm glad you liked it too. :)

Rural America is my home. I serve diner, gourmet, seven course, and homecooked thoughts — but spare me chain food served on thoughtless trains of thought.
