Isom's excellent piece reminded me of one by another Medium writer, Andrew P. Brown III, PhD, who posted a story titled:
“The American Psychological Association Has Issued A Formal Apology to People of Color. For their role in promoting, perpetuating, and failing to challenge racism, racial discrimination, and human hierarchy in the United States.”
The APA apology left no doubt in my mind, that the psychiatric profession has played a large role in legitimizing and defending deviant behaviour known as racism. Their apology makes it possible for psychiatrists, neuroscientists and psychologists to begin the work necessary to identify the physical, psychological and/or social factors underlying deviant behaviours currently known as racism.
Until that work is well underway, we must remain wary of people who display deviant affections for violence and perversion.
In time, I think we will learn that racism is common among psychopaths, sociopaths, serial killers, and serial rapists. If so, then racism is a mask that hid the psychopaths among us. Knowing they had the cooperation of the police, the courts and their fellow citizens, it is possible that psychopaths have been adopting racism as a disguise, in order to conduct torture, rape and murder in the light of day – often to applause and often for money.
Case in point: for nine minutes and twenty-nine seconds we watched a psychopath murder a man. We looked straight into his eyes. Derek Chauvin was not an actor. He was not playing a cop on some TV show. He was not posing for the camera. It was not a photo op. The last time I saw eyes as vacant as Chauvin’s were that day, was in a casket.
