Instead of repeating myself, I decided to reply with a link to an article I wrote here on Medium.
The Rural / Urban Divide; which side are you on?

For the sake of honesty, I admit it, I am a rural American. I've lived in the mountains the vast majority of my life. However, my work in rural land-use and community development has taken me deep inside rural communities. That work gives me the confidence necessary to say, urban and suburban Americans need to re-think their perspectives. If they don't, our country will collapse.
Statistically speaking, inner-cities and rural communities are almost identical. and that is the consequence of internal colonization - meaning a state, or a nation that exploits and oppresses peoples and regions within their own boundaries much the way the European colonial powers used to exploit and oppress foreign colonies.
Just like any other colony, rural America is littered with resource extraction, cheap labour, prisons and political corruption.
Of course, those are just my thoughts.
