I read your story with two minds.

In one mind, I am my worrisome, fearful self. Its not just you, white people are brutal to each other. While I suspect white brutality is the result of racism, I cannot know, for America has never been free of racism.

However, I have lived in another country, as diverse as ours, and it was there, that I began to dream of America free of its racist past. That experience is the inspiration that keeps me working, organizing, strategizing and activating. I think it sad, that my own country could not inspire me that way.

In my second mind, I am hopeful. Where white people failed, black people might succeed in leading us to a society where all of us feel at home.

Then again, my fate may be sealed -and I will always be on the outside looking in.

Rural America is my home. I serve diner, gourmet, seven course, and homecooked thoughts — but spare me chain food served on thoughtless trains of thought.
