I pulled this quote, because I’m hoping for some help with my thinking. I heard so many people say something was “human nature” I finally stopped to think about it. In case anyone might offer me some help, here is where I am with that train of thought.

In my mind “human nature” means the universal, innate, biological aspects of our physical bodies that are shared by every human being. The beauty of human nature is that it is so extremely flexible, it enables us to adapt to any survivable environment. However, everything we think, know and believe is a function of culture – not biology. While “emotions” are biological and everyone possesses them, culture tells us how to interpret those emotions.

This is important to me because it is so optimistic. Instead of believing that “human nature” has biologically wired, trapped, programmed, and sentenced me to this or that life, I am free to adapt and work towards any future vision I can imagine.

Rural America is my home. I serve diner, gourmet, seven course, and homecooked thoughts — but spare me chain food served on thoughtless trains of thought.
