Elle, I agree with you about the ancients, but no one wants to spend 93,000 hours of their lives doing dangerous, back-breaking, hard physical labour for strangers (known as my employer, boss, or supervisor).

Out in rural America people are happy to do hard physical labour and work long hours but only for themselves. If forced to take a job, most of them put in very little effort.
