For me, the VP choice was Andy Beshear or Tim Waltz. Jimmy Carter was the last Democrat on the presidential ticket who knew anything at all about agriculture, rural landscapes and community life. Thanks to Bill Clinton and his Democratic Leadership Council, the Democratic Party abandoned rural America and has not been seen since. If the Democratic Party had stayed in rural America, Trump never would have been elected.
For that reason, I can't tell you how much it meant to see Harris choose a VP who knows something about agriculture and rural life (and Waltz knows a lot about us). Of course, we have to wait and see how this plays out in November, but I am hopeful.
Just this morning, I listened to a report on the grants being distributed by the Biden Administration to farmers in Tennessee who had been discriminated against because of their skin colours. Again, we have to wait and see how this plays out, but I bet I'm not the only rural American who notices this stuff.
