Fazer, you made some really great points. But your conversation with commenter, Jen Maher, was even better, and I am jumping in.
Personally, I focus on the system. I've worked, studied, and engaged with the American system long enough to have confidence in my views. To cleanse the system, we need to identify the pillar that is holding the existing system up, then work towards destroying that pillar with every ounce of energy we can muster.
We don't need new ideas. If we go back to the beginning, we will find the key to changing every system in the nation, without undoing our lives.
In 1776, capitalism did even not exist, but the founders experience with corporations was so awful and oppressive, they seriously considered making the formation of a corporation un-constitutional in the United States. While they decided to put chains and limitations on corporations instead, they very quickly regretted their decision.
Nothing has changed. Today, the American people agree with the founders. A whopping 82% of the American people think corporations have too much power (the rest are undecided, have no opinion, head a corporation, or serve corporations in elected office).
Making corporations un-constitutional, would force change throughout the entire system - including our economic system, healthcare system, education system, justice system, governance system, land-use system, military system, prison system, labour law, business law, criminal law etc. and so on.
And so, I ask people what they think America might be like, if corporations were un-constitutional. Do not lecture us on corporate law, finance, stock markets or economics. Do not pretend trade depends on corporations. Do not tell us what you are afraid might happen. Businesses and corporations are not the same thing, so do not make the mistake of conflating them.
I’m not suggesting we get rid of businesses. I’m suggesting we put business-people back in control of American businesses. Making corporations unconstitutional would simply force corporations to become businesses.
As we just saw in Trump’s sentencing hearing, business-people are held responsible and accountable for their companies. If the Trump Organization had been a public corporation, instead of a privately held company, Trump would not have a criminal record right now.
Tell us what you think America might be like, if we made corporations un-constitutional.
