College students would be well advised to research their professors, before taking their class. Any professor who can’t earn a living in their field, isn’t worth a student’s time, money or effort. I dislike generalities, but George Bernard Shaw had a point, “Those who can, do; those who can't, teach”. Your commenter sounds like an old relic that couldn’t make it in the real world and taught instead.
For students facing life in the 21st century, schools and universities still relying on centuries old teaching models is insane. As far as I’m concerned, the entire teaching profession, from kindergarten to university, needs to be modernized – the faster the better.
