Among former European colonies, Singapore is a singular success. Within 50 years of independence Singapore ranked at the top of countries in almost every indicator (and above America today). I mention this because Singapore could have done what America did and placed its Chinese majority at the top of a hierarchy. But they had seen where social and racial hierarchies would lead and went in the opposite direction and embraced diversity in all its forms, language, race, income, etc.
